Job Opportunity Update - Global Product Manager (Flexible Packaging Coatings)


The Mayson Group has been exclusively engaged to seek a Product Manager for a major coatings supplier to the packaging market. Reporting to the global director of marketing, the Product Manager will globally lead market focused technical projects for packaging inks, coatings, and adhesives utilized in the flexible packaging markets.

Key Focuses:
  • Develop the product portfolio strategy including market analysis to determine opportunities, identify market needs, future trends, portfolio gaps, performance measurement tools, and competitive positioning. 
  • Leadership of new and improved product development and launches via stage-gate methodology with stakeholder organizations including technical, sales, marketing, and operations. 
  • Support commercial activities including technical support to the sales process, pricing/marketing analysis, creation of sales tools, and training. 
  • Manage the product / portfolio life cycle, in its entirety. 
  • Manage product related communication activities.

Key Requirements:
  • BS chemistry, chemical engineering, or related. MBA considered a plus. 
  • Project leadership experience, stage gate or similar skill set. 
  • Technical sales or marketing experience in food contact packaging materials. 
  • Market analysis skills including segmentation, competitive analysis, product life cycle, market trend, and business case development. 
  • Strong communication skills to facilitate co-work between internal stakeholders in other organizations. 
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time, on an international basis.

The Mayson Group has been engaged to seek a Technical Manager for the R & D group of a major industrial multinational Coatings developer and manufacturer. The manager will also assume responsibility for a small QA organization that supports and confirms quality of finished product. Already a major supplier to this market, our client is seeking a leader that has the skills to both manage the two organizations, and also lead initiatives and identify opportunities to improve the bottom line through approach like six sigma and value engineering. Since the role is located at the coatings plant, the Technical and QC manager will also have a key plant leadership role.

Technical & QC Manager Polyester Coatings

Key Focuses:
  • Leadership of technical group focused on product development, product maintenance, and value engineering activities. 
  • Leadership of the quality assurance organization that is responsible for assuring manufactured product quality. 
  • Key administrative tasks will include mentoring, training, hiring, and budgetary activities. 
  • Member of plant leadership team. 
  • Co-work with sales / marketing organization to address market related opportunities and issues. 
  • Oversight of technical support to manufacturing plant. 
  • Opportunity identification, project leadership, or support (if in other functional groups) of value addition / value engineering activities driving results to the bottom line. 

Key Requirements:
  • BS technical degree with minimum 8 years experience coatings industry experience, with direct manufacturing plant exposure. 
  • Experience leading a small professional team in a participative and collaborative manner to achieve results while developing the organization. 
  • QC/QA supervisory experience is a plus. 
  • Strong continuous improvement skills like six sigma or other methodology certification. 
  • Strong communication skills to facilitate co-work between internal stakeholders in other organizations. 
  • Ability to travel up to 30%, mainly over night if required.

  • Leadership of new product adhesive development utilizing micro-encapsulation technology in polyurethane, acrylic, epoxy, and silane chemistries.
  • Establish center of technical excellence for control release technology.

Key Focuses: 
  • In conjunction with coatings scientists and other members of a multi-disciplinary team, facilitate development of stronger, lighter weight, and higher value (i.e. anti-counterfeiting and UV protection) glass products based their material sciences background and strong understanding of the glass surface's characteristics. 
  • For assigned projects, lead new product development programs with appropriate tools (i.e. stage gate). 
  • Within domain of expertise using DOE, conduct experiments, analyze / interpret data, report, and provide conclusions and recommendations to support multi-disciplinary teams focused on new product development. 
  • Support process of new product launches through sample preparation, conducting internal trials/external trials, overseeing scale-up, and confirming that desired attributes have been achieved. 
  • Lead technical activities to benchmark competitive offerings including patent searches, competitive analysis, and literature reports to confirm state of the art in enhanced glass end products. 
  • Interact with outside parties like suppliers, technology sources, etc. in support of adding value to glass end products. 
Key Requirements: 
  • BS technical degree, engineering or material sciences with 10 years experience or MS with 5 years experience. 
  • Creative, innovative, and entrepreneurial nature. Background of being part of a team that launches new products. 
  • Materials science background including glass, plastics, inorganic / organic treatment of surfaces, nanotechnology and organic / inorganic composites. 
  • Strong communication skills.
